Bo & Luca

Shannon, the founder and creative director of Bo & Luca told her amazing story of Bo & Luca gown was influenced by an undying affinity with the romance of bohemia. The signature slow luxury aesthetic was grounded in ancient artisan techniques, uncomplicated styling and easy elegance.

Designed and hand cut gowns are hand beaded in the quiet Atelier in India. Using the ancient Indian art of Tambour, each bead is carefully hand-sewn onto the finest silk by local master craftsmen and women over a three to six month process. Tambour Beading was recognised as early as the 16th century as a technique used for beading luxurious designs onto fine fabrics.

Lovingly hand-dyed in loose-leaf White Tea, Bo & Luca gowns celebrate a feminine and carefree romanticism with delicate hand beading and embroidery using the ancient Indian art of Tambour.

Questions & Answers

The idea of Bo & Luca came into being while I was living in Dubai. Many of my closest girlfriends were having trouble finding their perfect wedding gown – a gown that represented the contemporary woman who was confident and worldly. This made me realise there was a real gap in the bridal market for gowns that rewrite the rules of bridal design, that were not driven by trends nor tradition. Our gowns tell an epic story – the story of the wearer and her loves. I asked myself, who dresses the daring romantic? For carefree women with effortless and captivating style, who is trusted to create bridal wear that reflects their unique personalities? My time spent living in the middle east and training with a local tailor love affair with the Middle East in her twenties showed her a world of bespoke tailoring and immaculate beadwork from which an answer was born – Bo & Luca.

I’m inspired by the female icons of the 70s and find myself attracted to looser silhouettes and natural fabrics such as silk, linen and cotton.

My style icons include Jane Birkin, Margherita Missoni, Stevie Nicks, Poppy Delevingne, Sienna Miller and Brigitte Bardot.

I am at my most inspired and motivated when I am travelling – seeing the way women dress according to different cultures. I am also inspired by architecture, music, sunlight and a woman’s unique body shape. As a creative, I am a firm believer in the energy and positivity that you surround yourself with, so I strive to express this through our collections.

It’s always an honor to see women wearing our designs on their wedding day. To see them smile from the inside out and just glow is the best part of my job.

Unique bridesmaid gowns – allowing the bridesmaids to choose their own dresses, instead of them wearing matching gowns. I am also seeing more and more of our European brides hosting their ceremonies in their local town hall, followed by an intimate soirée for their reception. I find this really intimate and modern.

In my opinion there will always be a place in the world for bridal. People will continue to get married and in most cultures, globally, a wedding day is one of the most important days in their lives. So while the bridal industry will experience peaks and lows, it will always be important.

The biggest mistake that brides make is to wear something that doesn’t reflect their personality and style. Too often you see bride’s who have let family and friends convince them to wear something that doesn’t reflect their own personal style. Another mistake brides make is to try out a new hairstyle or make-up style on their wedding day, which they’ve never worn before. It’s much better to polish your usual look for your big day and not to try anything extreme or too different to your regular style.

Be authentic to yourself. Select a gown in which you feel comfortable and relaxed in. You should feel completely yourself. A gown should never overshadow you, instead it should complement you. Your dress should make you feel beautiful and then you will naturally glow on your wedding day. There are no hard and fast rules as to what a wedding day should be about or how it should look, only that you remember it as a celebration of love and laughter, with the people you care for most. What elements bring authenticity to a wedding?

We will be debuting our newest Bo & Luca collection at the end of October 2018. The collection promises to be like nothing we’ve done before, but will still maintains our signature quality and beadwork.
